The expression suggests a moral reawakening of the poet-a transmission from ignorance to knowledge.

The ‘staring tribes’ were the oak-trees. They said that they were being chopped down and torn up indiscriminately (নির্বিচারে) but human beings do not feel hurt for them.

“Unless you make a promise”-Who is the person spoken to ? What promise is he asked to make ?

Here the person spoken to is the poet-persona. He is asked to promise that whenever he sees an oak tree felled, he would plant two instead.

The visionary dream gave him a new realization. He came to know that trees are his own true family and his relation with trees is indissoluble. Therefore, on his way back he was a human child in form, but a tree at heart.
