Three artists compete for a prize- the first paints a flower, and a bee is drawn to it-the second paints a fruit, and tries to eat it-the third, a curtain, and the judge tries to lift it-the third gets the prize.

THREE MASTER ARTIST

Once there lived three artists in a city. They were all skilled artists. They held a competition to decide who was the best artist among them. There was a prize declared for the winner. An eminent artist was also appointed as a judge for this purpose.

In the competition the first artist had painted a flower, the second artist had painted a fruit and the third one had painted only a curtain.

During observations they found that the first artist’s work was extremely natural and a bee sat on the painted flower for honey. The second artist’s painting was equally natural and a bird tried to eat it. The judge appreciated the paintings. Then he went and saw the curtain. It was so real that the judge tried to move it. He thought the painting of the third artist must be behind the curtain. But he was completely deceived. The flower deceived the bee, the fruit deceived the bird, but the curtain deceived an intellectual man like him. Thus the third artist won the prize as his painting was undoubtedly a masterpiece.

Moral: Intelligence is required even in art.

THE THIEF AND HIS AUNT

Once there lived an orphan boy in a town. He had an aunt who looked after him. As he was an orphan his aunt never rebuked him if he did anything wrong. One day he stole a book from one of his classmates and brought it home. But his aunt did not tell anything about his misdeed. The boy began to steal books and other articles from his school. In course of time, he became a seasoned thief. One-day the police caught him red handed and he was ordered to be hanged. On the day of his execution he saw his aunt crying in the crowd. The boy requested the police to allow him to say something to his aunt. His aunt was allowed to come up. The boy put his face near her ear and bit off one of her ears. The lady cried in agony. Everyone was completely surprised. Then the thief said, "The lady is the cause of my punishment. She allowed me to steal and thereby has led me to my present doom.”

Moral: We are made by our teachings in youth.
