Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay

i. Mother India has produced several renowned writers. Bibhutibhusan was one of them.

ii. He was born on 12th September 1894 in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

iii. His father’s name was Mahananda Bandopadhyay and his mother’s name was Mrinalini Devi.

iii. He had his early education at Bangaon High School. He passed intermediate and was graduated from Ripon College. Now, this college is known as Surendranath College of Kolkata.

iv. He started his career in teaching. He worked as the Headmaster of Jangipara High School and later at Harinavi Anglo-Sanskrit Institution.

v. He was best known as a novelist. He wrote many novels like - Pather Panchali, Aparajito, Debjan, Chander Pahar, Aranyak, Hire Manik Jale, Icchamati etc.

vi. He wrote not only novels but also short stories and travellogues.

vii. He was awarded Rabindra Purosker posthumously.

viii. This famous Bengali writer died on 1st November 1950.
