ISHWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR​

1. ISHWAR CHANDRA Bandyopadhyay or Vidyasagar was an educationist, a great scholar and a great social reformer of modern India.

2. He was born on 26th September 1820 at Birsingha village of  Midnapore.

3. His father’s name was Thakurdas Bandyapadhyay and his Mother’s name was Bhagabati Devi.

4. He had his primary education at village Pathshala.

5. Then he came to Calcutta and was admitted to Sanskrit College.

6. He passed the final examination with great credit and he was given the title ‘Vidyasagar’ for his profound knowledge.

7. He was against child marriage and campaigned for widow re-marriage.

8. He is called ‘the father of Bengali prose’.

9. He wrote many books such as ‘Shakuntala’, ‘Sitar Bonobas’, and ‘Barnaparichoy’.  

10. The great son of India died in 1891.
