Ans- When Father wolf woke up from sleep in the evening, he scratched himself, yawned and spread out his paws one after the other to get rid of the sleepy feeling in their tips.

b. Why are the animals scared of the jackal?

Ans- The animals are scared of the jackal because he sometimes goes mad, suffering from hydrophobia. In such condition he runs through the forest biting everything in his way.

c. What was the ‘law of the jungle’?

Ans- The ‘law of the jungle’ was that no animal could change the fixed hunting ground without due warning.

d. Why was Father Wolf angry on hearing the loud roar of the tiger?

Ans- Hearing the loud roar of the tiger Father Wolf was angry because he (the tiger) had changed his hunting ground which was beyond the law of the jungle. Besides his roar could also scare all the games away.

Ans- The brown baby, who could just walk, stood in front of the wolves den holding a low branch. He looked up at the father wolf and laughed.

c. Where were the parents of the ‘man cub’?

Ans- The parents of the man cub had run off.

d. Why did Sher Khan come to the den of the wolves?

Ans- Sher Khan doubted that the man’s cub might have come to the wolves den after its parents had run off. That is why he came to the den of the wolves looking for the baby.

e. Who was Akela? Give a description of Akela.

Ans- Akela was a great gray lone wolf. He was also strong and cunning. Akela used to lead the pack of wolves.

f. Why do you think Akela wanted the ‘man cub’ to be in the wolf family?

Ans- Akela was wise enough to foresee that the ‘man cub’ would grow up to be an intelligent human being and be able to help the wolves in future. That is why he wanted him to be in the wolf family.

Write a short story [in about seventy words] using the following points. Give a title to the story:

A hare challenges a tortoise to a race - the race starts - hare takes rest on the way - falls asleep - the tortoise reaches the goal first.

A boastful hare challenged a slow-moving tortoise to a race. The race started, and the hare quickly ran ahead. But after a while, the hare decided to rest and fell asleep. The tortoise kept moving slowly but didn't stop. When the hare woke up, the tortoise had already reached the finish line. The tortoise won the race because it kept going!

Activity-17

Suppose you have visited the zoo with your parents. Write a letter to your friend telling him / her about your experience in the zoo. You can use the following hints :

Dear Ranjit

I hope you are doing well! I want to tell you about my exciting visit to the zoo with my parents. We saw so many wild animals and birds. I was amazed by the mighty lion, the playful monkeys, and the colourful parrots. The lion looked so strong, resting under a tree, while the monkeys were jumping around and having fun. The parrots were chirping loudly and flying from one branch to another.

I felt a mix of emotions – excitement, wonder, and a bit of sadness too. It was fun to see these animals, but I also felt that they should be in their natural habitats, like a reserve forest, where they can roam freely. Zoos are good for protecting endangered species, but wild animals should have more space to live like they would in the wild.

I hope you get to visit the zoo soon too! It was an experience I’ll never forget.
