1. What steps were taken by Alauddin to establish a large empire?

Ans- To establish a large empire Alauddin was took the following steps.

i. Alauddin Khilji raised a large standing army as a defensive measure.

ii. He constructed a new garrison town known as siri for his soldiers.

iii. The soldiers had to be fed. This was done through the produce collected as tax from lands between the Ganga and Yamuna.

iv. He paid his soldiers cash salaries rather than iqta.

2. What methods were adopted by Alauddin to improve the finances of his empire?

Ans- The methods were adapted by Alauddin to improve the finance of his empire was-

i. Alauddin fixed the prices of various essential commodities like food grains, sugar and cooking oil.

ii. He set up three markets in Delhi one for food second for expensive clothes and the third for horses, slaves and cattle.

iii. His economic policy helps him to improve the finance of his economy.

3. Describe briefly the administrative changes introduced by Alauddin.

Ans- The administrative changes introduced by Alauddin was-

i. He kept a strict watch on the nobles and took certain steps to stamp out all intrigues and revolts.

ii. All land and property given to the nobles as gifts or religious grants was taken back by the government.

iii. Marriages, parties and social gatherings among the nobles were restricted.

iv. Drinking of wine in public was also prohibited.

d. He also introduced the system of spies.

4. Give a detailed account of the achievements of Alauddin.

Ans- i. Alauddin was a great patron of art and architecture

ii. Alauddin built the Alai Darwaza which served as a beautiful entrance to the Qutb Minar.

iii. He also made a madrasa near Qutb Minar.

iv. Poets and scholars like Amir Khusrau and Amir Hasan adorned his court.
